Jah mon–weed really wasn’t “legal” in Jamaica until last Friday. On the day godfather of ganja Bob Marley would’ve turned 70, Jamaica’s Senate agreed to legalize medical marijuana and decriminalize pot possession.
As we foresaw months ago, Jamaica’s Senate approved the nation’s Dangerous Drug Amendment Act last Friday, liberating Jamaica’s marijuana once and for all.
The bill doesn’t outright “legalize” our dear Mary Jane, but the effect will be like legalization as the new law both decriminalizes possession (up to two ounces) and forms a Cannabis Licensing Authority to set up medical marijuana in Jamaica.
The down side of the law: you can’t legally smoke on Jamaica’s public beaches or out in the open.
